SUNDAY SERVICE
Our Sunday service is held in the main hall of St. Peter’s School at 10:30am. A map can be found here.
What Is A Church Service?
The Sunday service is the time when we all come together. The purpose is to encourage us in our spiritual lives and to have a place where people who are curious about God and the church can come and feel included, even if they don’t believe. Everyone is welcome at our service.
The Sunday service encourages us in many ways, but primarily it happens just by being together – all sorts of people, of all ages from all types of backgrounds coming and joining together. Because we believe our encouragement primarily comes from relationships rather than ritual or doctrine, we try to make sure that there is space for people to spend time together. We serve fresh filter coffee and tea before the service, and again after the service, along with doughnuts and fruit.
Of course the more formal parts of our service also encourage us too. The people involved in the various elements of our service will have spent time in the week before (or even longer) praying and preparing so they can bring something that will be relevant and encouraging to all of us at the service.
What Happens At A Sunday Service?
An average service will look something like this:
We start our service at 10:30. On Sundays we don't have 'All Age Worship' the children can be registered into 'Splash Worship' and then go onto their group activities during the adult service. Find out more about our children's activities here.
The adult service usually starts with a welcome and prayer from whoever is leading the meeting. We then spend about 20-minutes in a time of music and singing. This is to help us focus on God and express ourselves to him. We might sing old hymns or more modern songs, but they’re all done in a contemporary style, led by a band. Most people join in with the singing, but it’s also fine for people to sit and listen to the words quietly.
Next we might spend a short time hearing from someone tell an encouraging story about how God has been working in their life, or some feedback from something the church has been involved with, or a report about people in our church who are abroad doing church work there.
Finally we will have a talk. Someone, trusted and responsible, will share some insight from the Bible. The talks are always down to earth, easy to understand (no need for a degree in theology!) and relevant to our lives here and now.
Occasionally the talk may finish by giving us an opportunity to respond, perhaps by praying or just simply waiting to see if God has anything he wants to tackle in our lives. These times of response are always laid-back and easy for people to either be involved or to opt-out.
The service usually ends before midday. After the service there’s more freshly brewed coffee, tea and squash available, along with doughnuts and fruit! Of course, all the food and drinks are totally free – you’re our guest after all!
